In the 1964 christmas special Rudolph the red nose reindeer, why was the doll on the island of misfit toys?

My mother and I could never figure out why the doll in the pink dress was a misfit. Anybody help?

She was supposed to say things like "mama" but could not.

Should rudolph the red nosed reindeer be banned?

We have a reindeer who is unpopular, who becomes popular after being promoted to leading the sleigh. In short, it teaches children that popularity and acceptance only comes through success. I believe that this is a wrong message to be teaching our children. That it may encourage feelings of worthlessness and shame in less successful children.

there are several troubling aspects in this situation. the song negates the contribution of all other reindeers without whom there would be no sleigh-pulling at all. Rudolph can't do it by himself, and surely the collective eyesights of the other reindeer could have pierced the fog, and considering the number of years the reindeer and Santa have been coursing the skies, they would know the route by now. Surely, the whole world wasn't covered by fog.

On the other hand, you could say that while Rudolph was labelled a freak by all the other reindeers, Santa saw the usefulness of Rudolph's uniqueness and used it to aid the cause of present distribution.

Another argument could be made that Santa exploited Rudolph's differences for his own advantage.

I think it's unrealistic on another level to say that all the other reindeers 'loved him', especially knowing the general behavioural patterns of male reindeers. i think it would be fairer to say that the other reindeer labelled him 'santa's pet' and would have scorned him more than praise him on this basis.

there is certainly more to this story than what Santa presents us, but rather than ban him we could at least make some further enquiries.
