what are the disadvantages of fair trade on the poor in developing countries?

I have to write about the good points of fair trade and the bad points.....well actually 'why it has little effect on the poor in developing countries'. I have found a lot of info on the good effects but not on the fact that it has little effect!!

'Diversion' is a good point, it is similar to the 'trickle down' effect where by as the rich get richer they spend more and the poor eventually benefit from the overflowing tables of the rich.

However, I'd like to take a step back, The key to your question is "fair trade". Is trade today fair?

Developing countries produce all sorts of products, from t-shirts to agricultural products. Is trade fair?

What I am trying to say is that "fair trade" is a myth. So before we ask why aren't the poor in developing countries benefitting from trade, we should ask why aren't developing countries benefiting much from trade. If you have just 1 scone and the boss takes 80% of it, the rest of the people have only 20% of 1 scone to sahre. But if the boss took 80% of 100 scones, the rest would have 20 scones to share. The rest aren't relying on the goodwill of the boss - he is still taking 80% - but when more t-shirts or more bananas can be sold, everyone the the developing country can be better off, irrespective of the in-country distribution/trickle down/diversion.

Richard Jefferson gets more points and is keeping his numbers up even with Vince Carter in the lineup. He's playing consistantly, and is looking to have one of the best seasons in his career.
Vince Carter is, well, Vince Carter. He's a great basketball player. However, I don't know if he can put up the same numbers as he did in the past. Especially with Richard Jefferson balling the way he is.
