Crystal Ornament
How can you tell that something is real crystal glass?
I have a box of ornaments in the loft that I would like to sell, they are my late grandmothers. There are thick glass, heavy ornaments/vases/bells/bowls etc. I was just wondering, before I sell them, How can I tell if they are actual Crystal, or if they are just glass? Is there a way of telling?.
flick (hit them)with your finger.... the sound that results will be a clear 'bell' sound if it's crystal.... otherwise, the sound will be just a 'ding'.... have them suspended , out of your hand, when you do the flick..... clean them up and hold them in a strong bit of sunlight... if it throws rainbows all over the room, it's likely crystal, too.....
Crystal Ornament

Hi, Where can I find plastic baking crystals used to make Christmas ornaments in the US?
I used to buy them in large clear plastic containers, a different color in each. The only ones I can find now are in little packages, or in Makit-Bakit kits. I only want the crystals, not the kits, or small quantities of lots of colors. I want larger containers, and only certain colors (red, white blue green) Thanks, Faye
Most craft stores do not carry them anymore as they are not as popular as they once were. It is possible that they do not even make the big containers anymore.
You might be able to order them from colobok's catalog: http://www.colorbok.com/DeptFiles/mandb.aspx?PageType=2&RecordID=385
Or you might find someone selling them on ebay
